Don't know species or even family (one book suggests it matches family
Geometridae but that is just on silhouette) but to narrow it down - to
several hundred(?) the larvae of a lepidopteran (butterfly or moth) - a
caterpillar. What is notable is the big gap between the false legs (prolegs)
at the top of the photo and the true legs.

This was on one of the plants in our garden this morning. Its stick-like
camouflage is rather impressive.
