Nice photo but not the Straw-necked variety but the much commoner Australian White Ibis.  The flock you saw between Crace and Palmerston lives around here and flies daily between the various bodies of water.
If you look in your bird guide you will see that the Straw-necked Ibis has very little white on it at all, especially  when not flying. And you will see why they are called straw-necked.
They are relatively rare in Canberra but more common now we have had rain. For what it’s worth, a pair were grazing outside the war memorial this afternoon.

Hi Folks

I think I've encountered a few of these in my limited exposure - on  a walk back from Gungahlin hill in April saw a smaller flock wheeling between Crace and Palmerston ... and a closer encounter with a couple at a small pond in Amaroo last week. Correct ID?

Enjoy

P.S. Off topic but bird related: anyone have advice on doing print mounts (A4 sized) cheaply? I'm not flush with the kind of funds that print mounts usually entail!
