Harold,

Yes you are right it is a Collared Sparrowhawk and not a Brown Goshawk, perched on one leg (not unusual). The thin toes (especially middle one), the noticeably small beak and non frown face are adequate to ID it. Appears to be overly red coloured. Only one photo shows what could well be a damaged right eye (and that has a precedent) or could maybe just caught with the nictitating membrane over it, i.e. blinking.

And yes the parrots are clearly Red-rumped Parrots.

Hi Folks

Last query for the night, for those who can tell the difference between a Collared Sparrowhawk and a Goshawk of similiar persuasion.

Link to Photo: http://bit.ly/1ouZSDo (taken April 2014 in Palmerston suburbia)

I am guessing this to be a proud Collared Sparrowhawk that has had a rough time (at the hands of a Currawong or whatever?). Seems to be missing an eye and a leg.

Does that sound right?

Thanks
Harold
