This past weekend Michael Robbins organized a visit by the Illawarra birders group. Many thanks to Michael, and to those locals who came along and shared knowledge and company. Michael will be writing a longer report.
There were some real highlights. At Callum Brae we saw the three woodswallow species (dusky, masked and white-browed), and a pair of White-throated gerygones feeding young in a nest at eye-level beside the path was a first for many. At Namadgi VC a lucky few saw diamond firetail and speckled warbler. Hooded robins at Glendale Crossing were nice to see. First thing Sunday a Red-capped robin at Shepherds Lookout started the day off well, although the audible Rainbow bee-eaters stayed out of sight. The Rufous songlarks at Kama put on a nice show, and nest-building Grey fantails were fascinating. Over 70 species for the weekend, a number of them being new for some of the visitors.
