I am unsure if the question is about whether our eagle could be a predator on deer here or whether they will be able to hunt this way. Peter's message has changed it a bit to a kangaroo story. Out near Tharwa years ago I watched a Wedge-tailed Eagle chasing an about half grown grey roo for about 50 metres. It certainly appeared that the kangaroo knew it was in danger. The eagle caught up and I think connected just as the kangaroo reached the cover of a tree and  sort of hid in the lower vegetation. The eagle then perched low in the tree immediately above it where they both stayed for the about 20 minutes I was able to stay around. The event was several hundred metres distant from me. I think this was when I was doing the honeyeater count for COG.

A few years ago I saw a Wedge-tailed Eagle hovering about 2m above a gray roo. The roo was gazing up at it and seemed to nearly topple backward several times but regained it’s balance each time. I didn’t have time to await the outcome but wondered if the WE had dinner on it’s mind.
