ACT Parks along with the Wetlands Board of Management will try and undertake a very small series of controlled burns at Jerrabomberra Wetlands next week –
weather permitting. There will be a series of small burn plots in two areas – behind Kellys and near the Billabong. Both will be in Phalaris grasslands and the purpose is to gather some information on how we can control biomass to meet Bushfire Operational
Plan targets but more importantly for the long term conversion of the exotic ground flora to a native ground flora. The reserve will not be closed but access will be temporarily restricted to the southern end of the reserve beyond the offices. One of the burn
plots will be planted up with native tussock grass to see how easily it will establish and stay competitive. This is the first stage of what will hopefully become a much larger native ground flora revegetation program. If the weather beats us we will re-schedule
for the autumn.
