I started beside Horse Park Drive at 0635h & walked anticlockwise round
the Lyall Gillespie Corridor over the David Walsh Ave bridge & the
largest Forde Pond & back by about 0715h. Brendan was parked there &
observing the avocets. If I had walked close along both sides of the
watercourse as I usually do, the avocets may have been flushed , & taken
off before Brendan had arrived. I don't think I have ever seen avocets
and was impressed by the colour contrasts: the crescent of black wing
on the white softball body. What shade would you call that striking
colour on the head and neck? chestnut, sienna, umber, light red, milk
chocolate?
