I
haven't noticed a reply from anyone else so here is mine. Yes this image of the water rat is
sufficient to identify it as Hydromys
chrysogaster, not because of the photo is necessarily
detailed, the broad head and two tone colour scheme is distinctive but more that
there is nothing else that looks or behaves remotely similar.

causeway at Komungla, SE of Goulburn on the Currawang Road at 8am today. Not
terribly good images, sorry. I know it's a bit off topic, but would anyone
know if this image of the water rat is sufficient to identify it as Hydromys
chrysogaster. He was foraging in deep water, submerged much of the
time.
