Hi Margaret,

 

Your bird is an Golden Whistler. I’m not sure if I can see rufous on the wing or not. If it does have rufous it is a youngish bird, probably in its second year.

From what I can remember it was roughly the size of a thornbill

I shot this at the Jerrabomberra wetlands on 3rd October 2011. At the time I was so preoccupied with kestrels and painted snipe that I filed it away and forgot about it.  I have never seen a Jacky Winter, and would have called this a Western Gerygone, except I am not aware of the latter being seen at JWNR.
