Benj (and others)

I had a single male Superb Parrot at home in Hawker three weeks ago, but none since. This was just prior to Geoff Larmour's email reporting Superbs returning to Cook.

Yesterday a friend of mine saw a group of 15 Superb Parrots flying south over the Belconnen Way - Coulter Drive intersection.

Cheers
Anthony

On Sunday I birded the Hawker ovals. I thought I heard superb parrots about 10 times but couldn’t locate them. They were evading me. After an hour finally 4 superb parrots flew over, 2 males and 2 females. 3 rainbow lorikeets. 6 kingparrots (unusual for Hawker), 4 welcome swallows, 5 WW choughs. Many red rumps, eastern rosellas, galahs, currawongs, red wattlebirds and N miners. 2 striated pardalotes and then 2 spotted pardalotes on my way home. A few Mynas and starlings. No ibis or friarbirds.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Superb Parrots in Giralang

Driving away from Giralang Primary School this morning I was delighted to look up and see four Superb Parrots in a tree across the road. Being relatively new to Canberra and with young kids I don't get to birdwatch much these days and this was my first view of this striking bird. I pulled over to get a better look but they flew before I got out of the car.

I was wondering if there are particular spots around Canberra where you have an increased chance of spotting SPs or if you just have to stumble upon them like I did?

Many thanks - Woo O'Reilly
