Jim
I heard one yesterday in the Hawker Playing Fields area. The attached table from the COG combined databases (other than GBS) shows the count or reports by month. This shows that June and July are the leanest months for Noisy Friarbirds, but there are still reports of some birds during the winter months. There are only 76 reports in August but this jumps to nearly 900 in September, so you could say it was a record of an early returning bird, although there is some chance it has overwintered here.
Species | Count | Month No |
Noisy Friarbird | 16 | 7 |
Noisy Friarbird | 16 | 6 |
Noisy Friarbird | 67 | 5 |
Noisy Friarbird | 76 | 8 |
Noisy Friarbird | 338 | 4 |
Noisy Friarbird | 543 | 2 |
Noisy Friarbird | 742 | 3 |
Noisy Friarbird | 773 | 1 |
Noisy Friarbird | 895 | 9 |
Noisy Friarbird | 1115 | 11 |
Noisy Friarbird | 1287 | 12 |
Noisy Friarbird | 1308 | 10 |

Subject: [canberrabirds] Noisy Friarbird at Mulligan's Flat
Hi all,
Heard my first Noisy Friarbird of the season Sunday evening at Mulligan’s Flats – is that an early record?
Other than that MF was very quiet:
Noisy Miners, Magpies, Black Ducks, Australasian Grebe, Yellow Rumped Thornbills, White throated Treecreeper, Grey Fantail and a pair of Masked Lapwings.
Cheers
Jim
