If Philip stays at his current post until Spring, and stretches his legs every day or so, I would expect it to be more likely than not he will hear an FTC each week of May-August. I don’t know about their movements. Perhaps the Winter callers are local breeders, perhaps they are augmented by refugees down from the hills, perhaps they are local breeders challenging transients. It will be the brrrt, brrrt rather than the pee-peeer call.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Fan-tailed Cuckoo at ANBG comment
In amongst all this comment about Koels, I'll mention that in my new role at an office, nicely hidden in the Ellis Rowan building next to Hudson's cafe, at ANBG (could hardly have a nicer Canberra work venue), I noted a Fan-tailed Cuckoo calling through the day. I had not noticed this in the prior 3 weeks there. The GBS results show an interesting slight increase in the species abundance during March, presumably as they move back out and through the suburbs. Or is it that they start calling again a bit more in March? I don't know.
