Spotted (Turtle) Doves

This evening I was helping a friend who has a starling roost problem in her front yard at Dunlop when I heard two separate Spotted Doves calling. Joe Forshaw mentioned to me that earlier in the week he had heard one in Amaroo. I will disagree slightly with Philip on the status of this species locally; they are not yet in large numbers but are being reported more and more and are slowly but surely becoming a breeding resident. Something needs to be done before they start to compete with Crested Pigeons. That in itself could be an interesting battle. We don’t need another introduced species in the ACT.
