Not road kill but laid peacefully in the bush.

Actually I'd think that Barn Owls, after Tawny Frogmouths and certainly young magpies are close to the most common road killed birds that you find on travels. Although Martin doesn't say if it was road kill but I'd think there would be many specimens available from that.

The ANPS WW today was to Bullen range entering from the Orroral Deep Space Tracking Station.

I ended up writing down 36 species with a very good mix of recent arrivals and very active 'normal' bush birds.  I had great views of my first Sacred Kingfisher of the season.  Most exciting was finding a dead Eastern Barn Owl.  The opinion of a very experienced member of the group was that it had been dead to 2 - 4 weeks.  We didn't have a suitable receptacle and it was pretty stinky so it was left in situ.  In anyone wishes to collect it I can give quite precise geo-coordinates.
