Hi Terry
Eastern Curlew legs are blue-grey, so there are a couple of options - it had an orange flag on its upper leg but I doubt there would be flags on both legs so the flag may have looked as if it was on both legs because the flags are relatively big and if the legs were together, both could have looked orange - I think that is the most likely explanation - or it had been in orange-coloured mud.
