Wondrous Wetlands Fair - 29 August

DECCEW is holding a Wondrous Wetlands Fair at Birralea Scout Hall, The Valley Ave, Gungahlin & surrounds on Sunday 29 August from 11am til 2pm. While the event is aimed at promoting the development of the wetlands ($6.5 million funded by ACT Government) it also has a strong focus on ideas to live more sustainably. On display will be a wetlands display; mobile chook runs; cat parks (great for people who live near Mulligan?s Flat); Magnet Mart will have a range of water saving devices on display & small trees for gardens including fruit trees, worm farms, compost bins; DIY wood fired pizza ovens; sustainable landscape architect; Blue Olive café (organic/local foods) and a range of local native tubestock for the garden.

The site is also of scientific interest and includes a remnant of native grassland on the ridge (we will fence this off during construction), is used by Latham?s Snipe for over-wintering and has two resident black swans. The Department is researching how key frog species were relocated during the construction of wetlands at Sydney Olympic Park site.
