Just to add this under Jean's
subject-heading
There were more than fifteen Dusky WS at Evatt this
morning near a drain that feeds into Ginninderra Creek some 700m downstream of
the Lake Ginninderra dam wall.
The DWS were plump because of the keen westerly
wind. At one point 11 of them were 'perched' - standing on the slightly damp
black asphalt of the bike-footpath. (Was the asphalt warming their feet?)
Others, more normally, took it in turns to fly off from deciduous branches and
hawk for insects. They all flew west into the wind when a magpie made a point by
flying into one of the DWS' trees.
The DWS were the highlight amongst nineteen species
on a casual walk from Flynn through to Croke Place, Evatt.
One older man was feeding Feral pigeons opposite
his home in Flynn. Can I obtain "laced" grain now that these birds are trained
to accept his offerings?
