As Winter has finished I thought I would tour my loop around the roads to Foxlow Bridge and see what birds were enjoying the 6 degrees of drizzle. The more interesting birds spotted were:
- A flock of approximately 30 European Goldfinches near the sharp bend outside Hoskinstown. These days it is quite unusual to see such a large flock of this species;
- A flock of 8 Australasian Pipits just after the turn-off to Rossi. This species are often seen in groups of this size in colder weather,
- About 20 Little Ravens dining on an ex-kangaroo and looking down on Foxlow Lagoon;
- At least 3 pairs of Australian Shelduck in various spots;
- A flock of about 30 Red-rumped Parrots close to Woolcara Homestead.
Foxlow lagoon appeared to be full of water, and a few waterbirds (Eurasian Coot and Black Swan - this is the only water body in Carwoola big enough to attract swans) were visible through the gloom. All the dams appeared to be brim-full but most only had Australian Wood Ducks or Pacific Black Ducks.
