It is
a early for Yellow-rumped Thornbills nest-building
but not by much. You can see this from the breeding graph on page 106 of
the GBS Report (21 Year editions) (or from the text) that "Breeding starts early, nest building can start in early July or
even mid June (two observations of this) but most start in August or
September."
In
the last week I have noticed at least three different individuals of dependent young Sulphur-crested Cockatoos around west Kambah (assumed as separate because of being far
apart).
Philip
Saw two pairs of Yellow-rumped
Thornbills nest-building this afternoon – one in the grounds of St Matthews,
Page; the other at Hawker ovals. A third pair at the Pinnacle NR were doing the
same last week. A dependent Red Wattlebird was being fed by a parent, also in
the grounds of St Matthews, while a pair of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos was still
feeding one young in my GBS. This last named family group has been heard around
the suburb for about a month and for the last two years there have been
late-breeding cockies in this area – the same pair, I wonder, whose first nests
regularly fail? b
