Denise G. to said sewerage ponds and saw wonderful crimson finches so check
her out in ph bk, she may still do these paid tours/tourettes

Rob, another helpful book would be "Birds of
Australia's Top End" by Denise Lawungkurr Goodfellow (with Michael
Stott). It gives "birdwatching hints" for each species
listed. I found it very useful while up that way last year. Howard Springs
just south of Darwin
was very rewarding for me - amongst several new sightings was the Rainbow
Pitta.
