Noisy Magpies

Yes Martin's statement about Jack's comment is a characteristic thing about Magpie behaviour. They do the same for Little Eagles. Although sometimes Magpies will be subtle about it but they are looking, they may stay on the ground or perch and you can see them watching eagles flying over.

In the past Jack Holland has commented that he
always knows when a wedge-tail is around as all the magpies in the area "go
off".  

I have alsofound this to be so in Carwoola although at times
the Magpies make the same noise, but generally stay lower down, when a Brown
Goshawk pays a visit.

This afternoon the usual ruckus erupted but the
birds seemed to be swooping to the ground.  Eventually a very suave fox
appeared from behnd some bushes , totally ignoring the Magpies passing between
its ears.  I really regret being so absorbed that I forgot to grab, let
alone use, my camera.
