Had a good day COG gridding - best was U21. This is just off the Pic
Road along an old forestry track. Sightings included Olive Whistler,
Lyrebird, Pilotbird, Eastern Whipbird, Satin Bowerbird, Golden Whistler,
Rufous Fantail and Eastern Yellow Robin.
White-winged Choughs were building near the Wombat Bridge along
Captain's Flat Road, so perhaps some species will respond to the recent
rain with another go at breeding.
There was somewhat hectic birdlife along the flat upstream of the Wombat
bridge. Suddenly, a few high pitched hisses later, dead silence - the
cause, a Hobby perched in a dead tree directly overhead.
There were 49 Welcome Swallows were hawking above 'Winchester Oval',
(which is the Captain's Flat town oval).
How can you count 49 Welcome Swallows a-hawking without losing count?
Wait until they arrange themselves neatly on some nearby wires.
