How many wattlebird chicks are there in a typical nest?
Our two fledglings have descended from their safe nest atop a large
Grevillea to a much more precarious perch in a Cemellia. After
initial squawking to call their parents, they are sitting quietly
right next to each other about 1.5 m above the ground. The parents are
feeding them there. I didn't see them fly down but their tails are a
lot shorter that the full adult size and I'm surprised they can manage
it.
The pair in our garden have two young who are now at the stage of
feeding themselves on the grevilleas. Last year they also bred but I
only saw one offspring.
