Thanks Philip. I had
actually (before going down the rubber snake path) tried tying a plastic bag
round the rear vision mirror. I thought that the sound and sight of the bag
blowing in the breeze would be a deterrent. It was, briefly, but soon I just had
a dirty plastic bag to deal with as well. The bag would have blocked out the
image of the bird so am not sure that the rag or old sock you have mentioned
would work. It may be worth a try though.
Does anyone else
have any suggestions as to how to stop the behaviour? It becomes a little
tiresome having to allow time to clean the car every time before going out! I
had thought of trying to attach cable ties to the mirror while the car was in
the drive but am not sure that this would be feasible, or more importantly
whether it would hurt the birds as they are quite delicate in comparison with
magpies against whom the ties do seem to work for cyclists......
