Hello all,
Went to Kelly's today and at the Sewerage Ponds I accidentally photographed the bird that I attach. Accidentally because I didn't notice it in the field. Imo this bird shows characteristics of both Chestnut (chestnut underparts, greenish head, white patch near tail) and Grey Teal (the very white cheeck patch) and thus is a hybrid between the two, perhaps an offspring of the pair that was present last season.
Apart from that there were pleanty of Goldfinches about, three little grassbirds, 1 whistling kite, around 60 shoveler, 20 Pink-ears, 8 Blue-billed, 12ish definite chestnut teal and lots of PBD, Hardhead and Grey Teal. Oh and one of the Hoary-headed Grebes was ferrying at least one youngster.
On the way to Kelly's (which is bone dry btw) I ran over a decently sized Brown Snake, but fortunately it ran off into the undergrowth unharmed (I hope...).
Cheers!
Dimitris
PS: I realise that the photo is ~20 kbs above the acceptable limit. But if I shrink the photo anymore the bird will be just a pixel, apologies if I incovenience anyone. For higher resolution images, just ask.
