G'day

This is just a gloat of an email.
I have been to all the recommended places to try and see Gouldian Finches and so far have come up empty handed.
Amazing what pops up when your are least expecting it.

I stopped about 190km east of Borroloola  on the Carpentaria Hwy to look at what turned out to be a new bird for me, Little Woodswallow (including juveniles) when guess what landed on the road in front of me about 20 feet away.
I saw about three in the open and there more in the grass with Zebra and Long-tailed Finches.
You can see what views I had of them because our camera is only a very small zoom.
It was just one of those magical moments with the Little Woodswallows flying literally up to the windshield before veering up and the finches around moving in and out of the grass.
I watched them for a fair while before moving off.

As I was nearly up to speed a flock of about 20 Gouldian Finches came out of the grass and flew in front of me.  I thought I had hit some but when I went back to look I could not see any that were dead which was a great relief for me.
One of the bad things about driving in areas that have lots of speed, narrow roads, long grass right up to the edge and lots of wild life is that  things suddenly appear in front of you and have been hit before you can react.

Cheers
