Hello all,

As I see that the Topknots are getting a bit popular here are a couple of tips in order to get good views

1) Go early in the morning. I can't stress this enough, the birds don't like people at all and as the tea trees their feeding on are close and close to the walking track the birds usually flush (all 70 of them) and are usually not seen again until late in the afternoon. That said if the place is not overun with people you can easily see them through- out the day.

2) Yes, they are approachable and yes you can get within less then 5 meters of them (!). Just sneak up them quietly, make no sudden movements. If you see the flock coming in to land, stay still, if you are lucky they will land close. Beware of Australian Ravens, Satin Bowerbirds and Olive-backed Orioles with which they losely assosciate when feeding. These species are more alert then the Pigeons and it only takes one alarm call to set them all flying. Of course the Peregrins, Sparrowhawks and Sea Eagles may ruin it for you...

3) Visit the park soon as the Tea Trees are running out of berries!

Hope the above help and I will try to keep you updated,

Cheers and have good holidays,

Dimitris
