Before receiving Coral's posting - surely interesting to all - I had been attempting to analyse the GBS records for Koel and Red Wattlebird, with a view to commenting on it in my next Gang-gang column.  However it all got too long and too complicated and there seemed to be some benefit in putting the information forward now.  So those that are interested, please see the attached. 

Of course it is important as always to note that correlation does not mean causation, and also that I don't have the biology to answer the questions this raises (either explicitly or implicitly).  Others on this list have that capability.

The Herbert Cres Ainslie Koel has moved about 100 metres to Cobb Crescent and has been joined by a female.  On Friday the pair were observed hassling a Red Wattlebird's nest. The RWB nest had a recently dead young bird hanging from the feet near the nest (not sure the cause of the death: possibly Koel). The nest now seems to have been abandoned.
