Ian and others are right. I hope that none of those
who have been around the scene for a long time have forgotten either the
excitement or the discovery of being new at it and hopefully all recognise the
value in encouraging it in others. I also think that none of us would want to
belittle that process in others now. There is a bit of an issue though that the
medium of e-mail messages and the time that it takes to read them is different
from and often lacks the sense of context that the face to face chat (which was
the way of passing on the immediacy of observations, years ago) had. The
beginner can find something of great note just as well as anyone else. We don't
want to discourage anyone but we also don't want everyone to type in everything.
There probably isn't an ultimate answer, other than being open to the range of
backgrounds.
