Hello all
Our most memorable sighting of birds on a roadkill was in July 2006 a
few kilometres south of Molong, NSW. We saw two white-faced herons
feeding on a grey kangaroo carcass within a metre of the
bitumen. They both held their position as we drove by.
We didn't stop to check exactly what they were eating.
While we've never observed it ourselves, we understand that pacific
herons eat carrion. But we haven't heard of white-faced herons doing
so. Of course, they may well have been rummaging through the carcass
for insect larvae or pupae.

HI Beth
I have seen Brown Falcons feeding off (already) dead sheep on several
occasions. Both singly and as a pair.
Cheers

Subject: [canberrabirds] Brown Falcon on roadkill - Coppins Xing Road
Hi Everyone,
This afternoon I observed a Brown Falcon (a local, I suspect, as I see
one quite regularly on this drive) feeding off a road-killed kangaroo on
Coppins Crossing Road, near the junction with Uriarra Road. I'm not
sure that I have seen a Brown Falcon scavenging like this before; has
anyone else?
Cheers,
Beth.
