re Willows - I understood that there are invasive and non-invasive species of willows, and that some willows are best left alone.  Maybe someone can correct me or confirm this.

re Yass River - reparation of this river to awesome status will not be made easier by some of its current impediments. At one point on a property owned by a famous local, the river has been comprehensively dammed.   It's a substantial rock wall dam which I think has been concreted on the upside.  Maybe it doesn't make any real difference to water flow in the scheme of things (apart from being used as a means of arguably legal(?) water extraction to keep the property green), but this sort of thing doesn't appear to sit well with the spirit of environmental goodness and looking after valuable resources.

I've noticed the willows have been cleaned up crossing over the Yass River on
the highway too (Barton not Federal!).  I've been waiting for that for ages.
Wonder how far along the river they're goin?  I reckon it would've been an
awesome river, still could be.

Why do they have to bulldoze? Usually they just poison the stumps don't they?

On Friday afternoon there was a road killed platypus in that area so ripping
out the willows may effect burrowing animals as well as birds.

I have noticed this week that bulldozers are busy clearing all the vegetation
along the road-side of Molonglo Reach. I realise that its mostly willows and
other exotics but what effect will this have on Darter/Cormorant nesting?

Cheers
