But following Con's earlier lead to the area south east of Googong Dam yesterday, we (Lindsay Nothrop and I) did see plenty of both. We were originally on the lookout for Chestnut-rumped Hylacolas/Heathwrens, and although we had one possible sighting weren't able to get another look. It was making a chirrup call like a bit like a loud insect before it departed into denser scrub. The most-obvious-bird-of-the-day was White-eared HE's that were throughout the treed areas, but we saw at least 4 Brown Treecreepers in an alive bit of bush at the corner of two firetrails. Not far from there in a once-grazed field beside Burra Ck we came across a plethora of Hooded and Flame Robins and probably also Scarlets. It was a startling discovery in the late afternoon sun to see at first one, then two, then a counted nine robins all sitting perched on top of waist-high stalks watching us watching them. There were at least 6 Hoodeds and at least 4 Flames, but the total was 15 to 20. Like Finch Central it's a fairly uninspiring bit of land, and half an hour later there wasn't one robin to be seen. But for info and simplicity the location of the robins is linked under this photo... http://www.flickr.com/photos/ozjulian/2535427714/ and the treecreeper location under this one... http://www.flickr.com/photos/ozjulian/2533917340/ RFI: the direct link for the robin location is this http://loc.alize.us/#/geo:-35.510378,149.264320,17,k/ Can someone tell me if this works please? I am unsure whether these links are 'transportable' or not. Thanks in advance. ******************************************************************************************************* This is the email announcement and discussion list of the Canberra Ornithologists Group.
