Yesterday, continued exploring the birds of COG Area of Interest grids
yesterday. Briefly, X10 site was a quarry on the Mount Fairy Road, which
runs off the Goulburn/Braidwood Road, X12 site was the Reedy Creek TSR
on the Goulburn/Braidwood Road, Y12 site is on the Duckfield Road which
also runs off the Goulburn/Braidwood Road. W13 is on the Mulloon Creek
Road which runs off the Kings Highway and X and Y 14 are on Manar Road
which runs off the Kings Highway for a total of six grids. Quite a bit
of the poorer and steeper country is reverting to bush by way of a
variety of native shrubs. Quite a bit has also been subdivided for
country properties. Mostly this appears to be leading to tree planting
but in one case the newbies had over-grazed their property so that it
was pocked bare dirt. Would not like them for neighbours. New dams are
still going in. Highlights were a pair of Yellow Thornbills and
Brown-headed Honeyeaters in W13 and Y12, a Restless Flycatcher in X 12
and a Speckled Warbler in X10. Most of the birds seen were in MFF of
varying sizes and compositions. Saw only three raptors for the day - two
Brown Falcons and a Wedge-tailed Eagle. Did not see Brown Treecreepers
or Hooded Robins. Recorded Crested Pigeons in only one grid, Silvereyes
in two grids, Little Ravens in three grids, Grey Fantails in two grids,
Willy Wagtails in three grids, Grey Butcherbirds in four grids. Saw,
Yellow-tailed Cockatoos in three grids but no corellas or Gang Gang
Cockatoos, Yellow-faced Honeyaters or White-naped Honeyeaters in any of
the grids.
