Between 1345 and 1430 today, in the same place described by Julienne on
10 May, I counted 25 Swift Parrots. There were about 4 parrots per
interested human being. Most of the parrots spent most of the time
resting. A few were preening and a couple were feeding. From 1430, for
fifteen minutes, Noisy Miners and Pied Currawongs had interactions with
the Swift Parrots. There were five Pied Currawongs. Typically, they sat
and waited for the Swift Parrots to settle down and then made a short
rush at them, flushing them. I would class this as hunting behaviour by
the currawongs. The Pied Currawongs did not keep chasing the Swift
Parrots once flushed. No casualties amongst the parrots. The Noisy
Miners occasionally succeeded in moving the Swift Parrots along but on
one occasion, a Swift Parrot reacted to an approaching Noisy Miner by
lunging at it. The Noisy Miner backed off and the Swift Parrot stayed
where it was. I left the area at 1450 and returned briefly at 1550 by
which time there were no Swift Parrots to be seen.
