I am reasonably certain there have been none there recently,
Denis, but I once reported a Knob-frequenting Superb Parrot that was greeted
with equal scepticism. Incidentally, it remains ‘Rocky Knob’:
see Yellow Pages Map 69 K11. The name ‘Rocky Knoll’ was
coined for, and in the course of resisting development of, the nearby block on
which senior citizens’ units have been constructed.

Subject: Re: [canberrabirds] Swift Parrots
If
I may be permitted a moment of sweet remembrance, as a callow youth I found
Swift Parrots on Rocky Knob (now Rocky Knoll), Carnegie Crescent, Narrabundah
in about 1959/1960. They were feeding on lerps on the Yellow Box trees there.
I
reported it, but was told it was not possible /highly unlikely/ who would
believe a 12 year old?
Someone
from CSIRO Wildlife came out to check, and believe it or not, we found a
recently deceased bird on the ground. Swift Parrot first official record for
ACT entered into the records.
