I have compared your image with the one of a Brown Quail on p127 of the "Birds of Prey and Ground Birds of Australia".  I think the photos are pretty much identical.  Their ID notes say that some birds have a crown stripe.  This is also mentioned in V2 of HANZAB as is the ear spot.

How do you explain the superculium, the ear spot and the stripe on the crown? All the Brown Quail pictures I've seen on the web show no markings (eyebrows, crown stripes, etc) on the head...
