Thank you Noel.  I think that in all probability it is the Eastern Koel we have around here, but I confess to some difficulty in distinguishing the species by voice alone.  g

Subject: [canberrabirds] Asian Koel

Over the last couple of weeks an Asian Koel (possibly the long-standing Griffith one) has included an adjacent backyard in its beat, often giving the ‘wirra-wirra-wirra’ call, and right now (1930 hours)  ‘kooeling’ strongly.  This afternoon c. 1830 hours I noticed it was exchanging ‘koo-els’ with another one a few hundred m’s away, so there are at least 2 still in the local area.  Here, there has been no hiatus in the kooeling  since my first reports.
