One immature
Little Bittern yesterday (3:15 pm) at Acacia Inlet, not far from Geoffrey Dabb’s
purple star on the Rosalky/Dabb/Google picture. It was much shyer than
the previous one that I had observed and when it realised it was being watched stayed
fairly well hidden in the rushes although it did not adopt the “you can’t
see me” pose.
Earlier I also
heard a call which reminded me of a Little Corella near Point C on the Rosalky/Dabb/Google
picture. After much searching (I do not have stereo hearing) I noticed
that the sound was coming from a large juvenile Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike which
was being fed by its parents.
