Phillip (and others) are commenting on "commuting" of White Ibis. This fits with studies in Sydney, conducted by John Martin, who is doing a Masters at Uni of Wollongong on these birds.
 
White Ibis have been tracked from breeding grounds to favourite feeding areas (mostly tips, and Taronga Zoo). They are not troubled by flying 30 Kms or so, to and from feeding grounds.
