After further checks and scaling the distance off the
yellowpages maps, the calling bird can comfortably achieve 900m, probably over
1km. With a physical range of say 1km, the one bird could have a daily
auditory coverage of a radius of about 3km and thus cover several suburbs.
As with other long-distance callers like orioles, apparent fluctuations in
volume seem to depend on which way the bird is facing.

I tend to
think it is also the bird that Barbara (in Page) has mentioned and others have
reported in Hawker and Weetangera. Or ss that too large a range?

P.S. And who's schlossed? I don't drink any more than the next bloke!

Google Earth suggests that it is about 1.7km in a
straight line beween Chateau Fennell and Schloss Brannan. If the
bird was somewhere close to halfway between it would possibly be in a tree
directly over Anthony Overs' roof.
This would all be happening within the range of
"carryingness" estimated by Geoffrey's tracking in darkest
Narrabundah.

Heard one
in Florey for the first time this year at 4.30 this morning. Presumably the
same one that Paul complains of in Scullin.
