A Namadji ranger said that they've seen a few of these dogs in the
park, including a plain black one and one with litter in the area we
saw ours. He said that genetic studies show they are quite close to
dingoes despite appearance, but also that a large number of domestic
dogs were released in the mountains at the end of the snowy scheme
which are responsible for much of the interbreeding.

Yesterday just south of Yankee Hat / Gudgenby we saw the attached
pair of unusual looking wild dogs. And to make this more
bird-relevant, we later saw a Swamp Harrier, hunting above the
incredibly beautiful headwaters of the Naas Creek/River. On
Saturday in the same area our highlights were a couple of Brush
Cuckoos (one seen at close quarters) and a pair of Red-browed
Treecreepers also nice and close. But no Red-backed Kingfishers :(
