Attached article from The Australian today 25/10/07 says that
Macquarie Marshes near Dubbo, a Ramsar site, has gone from 20,000
birds in the '80s to zero birds this year. Worse perhaps, because of
the limited scope for reversal, is the news that "River Red Gums are
dropping like flies".
No wonder we are getting unusual species in the ACT. Julian
