Our concerted birding efforts this weekend via the blitz have discovered that there is definitely a movement of Red-backed Kingfishers to this area at the moment.   A visit to the Parkwood area this afternoon, and a long hobble, revealed the 2 x RBKF discovered by Joe Barr yesterday and clear pictures of these plus there breeding hole in the riverbank can be seen by visiting the following URL:

The URL is given to allow people to view these pics at a reasonable resolution/size as the 100Kb limit on Cog-line really doesn't do some pictures justice...

Three cheers for Barbara for organising another enjoyable and 'successful' blitz !!!

Regards
Stuart Harris

PS the RBKF were seen entering the breeding hole on numerous occasions this afternooon

Just back from my bushwalking blitz - in the deep south of the ACT - and yet more RBKFs - there was one at one survey site & a pair further on (might have been the same bird). Heard and glimpsed them. Could determine that they were kingfishers but the calls were wrong for sacred. Now that I have returned home and listened to the tapes I am convinced that they were Red-backs.

This was yesterday (Saturday 27th) at 2pm & 3pm on the Long Flat Fire Trail - Grid I28)

Note: Sacreds were also calling down there
