Today at Kelly's Swamp, seen from Cygnus hide around 2pm:
1 Bar-tailed Godwit
10 Black-winged Stilts
2 Glossy Ibis
2 Pacific Black Ducks with 6 trailing young each
A pair of Australasian Grebes busy nest building
The Godwit flushed briefly when a Whistling Kite passed by. It flew almost
directly over the hide before settling back on the far bank at the southern
end of the swamp.

Re: [canberrabirds] Bar-tailed
Godwit still at Kelly's Swamp
According to Steve Wilson's book "Birds of the ACT: Two centuries of
change" the first record of a Bar-tailed Godwit ni the ACT was in late
December 1972. The other records - which he suspects are of a single bird
- were between 19 Nov and 2 Dec oin 1979. Thus:
it is a very rare bird in this area; and
it may hang around for a while.

Hello all!
The Godwit was showing well on the far bank from the Cygnus hide with 6
Pied Stilts, 2 Glossy Ibis and at least 1 Black-fronted Dotterel. It was
in the grass so it may prove hard to pin down. Also Black-shouldered &
Whistling Kite.
Cheers!
