Hi Benj,
Sometimes they are easy, sometimes really hard. The
strange thing is it isn't always how long you get to watch them that makes the
difference. Their flight differs, when seen in flight with a good view of the
tail shape, that is the clearest feature. Not enough attention is given to
the different proportions of head & beak. A little correction to your
comment: it is the middle toe (mainly) not the back
toe.
