In concurrence with Bruce Ramsay's earlier report, the aggregation of
hirundines at Kelly's Swamp and the FSTW provided quite a spectacle
today. Conservatively, the total exceeded 500 birds and my estimate
is 300+ Welcome Swallows, 150+ Fairy Martins and 50+ Tree Martins at
14:30. I do not see any conflict between these observations, the
difference being explained simply by the arrival of more birds. I do
not recall observing so many Fairy Martins at one location previously
in the ACT.
