The recently reported Tawny Frogmouth and Great Crested Grebe were both still in their advertised locations, at Corroborree Park and Acacia Inlet (peninsula) respectively, at lunchtime today, the latter being mid-lake directly out from the boat ramp. It appeared, from that distance, to be in full breeding plumage.
Also at Coroborree Park: a pair of Galahs mating (a protracted affair given the quickness of the act for most bird species!), then one of them sitting in the entrance to a nest hollow; and two
Crimson Rosellas also at a nest hollow in an adjacent tree.
At Acacia Peninsula, Black Swans sitting on two separate nests either side of the boat ramp.
Elsewhere recently:
- at home (Kambah) last week, a male Crescent Honeyeater active and calling on Monday to Thursday mornings but not heard or seen since. And this after going to ANBG on Sunday afternoon specifically to see the CreHE that has been/is hanging out around the lower end of the Sydney gully.
- at Uriarra Rd x Coppins Crossing Rd on Saturday: the reported pair of White-fronted Chats were active but no indication of nesting observed; and two Skylarks in full song flight. Also a
Golden-headed Cisticola which I haven't noticed there previously.
- at Uriarra Crossing on Saturday: a Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo calling from the top of a dead tree. - at Lake Jerrabomberra on Sunday: lots (ca 30-40) of Tree Martins; a male
Rufous Whistler in full song; an Olive-backed Oriole calling a couple of times; and at least two young Yellow-rumped Thornbills, one obviously just out of the nest, being fed by two parents.
