Thanks Clifton,
Good that you saw it too. The report form has gone
to Barbara for the rarities panel, prior to your name being on it, but I
think I put 39 people's names not, plus me, on it. With a fair description
and huge numbers of photos, it should just about scrape through the process.
The Italian bloke you mention has also talked to me
and a few others along the same lines and I suspect anything from a Silvereye to
a bowerbird might be "a tree full of those birds". His is one of the houses on
Hiles place that knocked down all the trees and put in lovely paving and rubbish
plants. I actually have always thought of my site as a fairly average sort of
bird site. The location with a small park nearby and between Mt Taylor / Urambi
Hills / Murrumbidgee gives plenty of scope for over flying by waterbirds and
raptors in particular.
As for the White-fronted Honeyeater, it is being
more hard to find. I was out most of Monday and didn't see it but I heard it in
the morning. I saw it on Tuesday. It was well hidden on Wednesday but was seen
briefly by Geoff Duggan, Ian Gordon & I. Today I heard it in the morning but
didn't see it on several short attempts. I went out for lunch and on my return
whilst I was in the yard, it flew in from the north and perched on the top of my
apple tree for a few minutes, then went over the house into its Grevillea, but
only stayed briefly. I've checked since and couldn't find it. So anyone coming
may need to give themselves more than 10 minutes to see it.
Rumours of a cage are not actually correct.
Besides, due to bungled repair on my car, I haven't been able to travel more
than about 20 km in one go, let alone out of Canberra, since March.
