The Square-tailed Kite should already be
on the list for COG’s area of concern but because of my slackness is not!
I have not yet gotten around to writing up a record of a bird seen by Richard
Allen, Chris Davey, Paul Mahoney and myself in October 1991 at Lowden Forest
Park in Tallaganda
State Forest.
I have found the species nesting near Bombala in the 1980’s while working
for CSIRO in the area that is now the Coolangubra National Park, so it is a distinct
possibility that the species will fly over the ACT boundary (and I don’t
mean Jervis Bay!) sometime in the not too distant future.

Honeyeater Poll
That is true, it is also true that prior to 1975 we
did not have a good field guide to passerines and cameras and videos were not
as accessible. It is also true that for several years before the COG
e-mail list, there was the phone hotline updated once or twice a week, through
most of the 1990s. As for "my" WFHE, it has been so consistent at the
site, that if that site happened to be even as little as say 200 metres away
(in a line involving through other people's properties, rather than along an
accessible path), then I would not have known about it.
I think the next overdue new ACT bird is the
Square-tailed Kite.
