I am serious (and "flappergasted"). I went out to go to my local shop at 1.30 and heard a bird call, looked around and my first impression was something like a Crescent Honeyeater. But clearly not.

The most obvious thing was that it is brown and striped only slightly yellow on wings, with a really clear dark throat and strong demarcation from the striped breast, it was mostly whitish lores and about the face and a very obvious grey oval over the ears. I rushed inside grabbed my binoculars and found it again. I watched it from about 2 metres unobscured but in dull light. I then went back inside  grabbed my video camera and got about 40 seconds of film of it. Terrible quality, due to shakiness and poor light and hard to focus (I'm no Geoffrey Dabb). However it was close up. As far as I know the bird is still about, though it is in the front of my yard, which is the back (away from the street, as I am in a battle-axe block).

I'm content to have people try their luck, I can't vouch for the neighbours.

If anyone else has any ID suggestions apart from White-fronted Honeyeater please let me know.
